P O R T R A I T U R E

In an increasingly more virtual world, hyper saturated with digital imagery and snapshots as a substitute for memory, the value of a traditionally made and hand printed photograph is becoming exceedingly more precious. This is why after a number of years working as a freelance documentary and book photographer, I’m offering a distinctive and special portraiture service. Offering both a medium format film and large format film options, either on location, at a studio or the comfort of your own home, my portraiture places emphasis on the value of the physical and the handmade. A portraiture session may cover; a specialised one-on-one portrait shoot, unique family portraits, professional headshots, lifestyle profile shots for your social media page, your art, band or project.

What I offer:

A one hour photoshoot that focuses on capturing you truthfully and elegantly in natural light. My portraiture values more quiet and gentle moments, accentuating the beauty in stillness and tenderness. Each shoot is unique experience, tailored to your individual needs as a client as I’m dedicated to creating an effortless and comfortable environment in which we collaborate together to make meaningful pictures. Rest assured, the effort of making the shoot a comfortable experience will not sacrifice valuable dynamism and energy. Throughout the hour, we will work together to experiment with varied lighting conditions, and scenarios with the intention of bringing vitality and life to the final images.

What you receive:

At the time of booking you may chose between two seperate packages or a combination of the two. The first option is a medium format package in which I’ll shoot on a Mamiya RB67 medium format film camera which is a quicker process of shooting and yields more overall photographs. The second option is a large format package in which we will shoot on a Wista 45 Field Camera which is unparalleled in resolution and quality, yet yields less photographs at the end of the shoot.

Depending on your choice of medium format, large format, or both, you will receive slightly different packages of final images. If choosing the medium format package, you can expect a gallery of 15-25 images some colour, some black and white. These photographs will be shot on roll film, developed, and uploaded to an online gallery for you to download as web-quality files. From there you may chose to purchase hi-resolution copies, fine art prints or handmade, one of a kind, silver gelatine darkroom prints.

If choosing the large format package, we will spend the hour shooting on a 4x5” large format film camera (think 19th century photographer hiding under a dark cloth attached to an old wooden camera) This is a utterly unique photographic experience, predicated on a slow and attentive process in which we work together to create mindful and thoughtful photographs. This type of photography yields extraordinary results unlike anything else you may have seen. With supreme attention and consideration for light, location, and posing, the experience of shooting alone is a valuable exercise in finding stillness in the everyday. Throughout the shoot, I will take 6 - 10 black and white pictures that I will hand develop in the darkroom, scan, and upload to an online gallery for your viewing. The beauty of this process really comes alive in the printing of the work and so emphasis is placed on the final physical print, rather than the digital file. After viewing your files, you will have the option of ordering archival, fine art, pigment prints on 310gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper, or archival, handprinted, silver gelatine darkroom prints from a 4x5” negative.

Extras:

Whether you chose the medium format or large format package, the optional bonus extras remain the same. After our shoot you will have the following ad-on options:

  • Hi resolution scans that are suitable for the highest quality sharing or promotion (cover art, promotional posters, etc.)

  • Archival quality, fine art, pigment prints on 310gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper at various dimensions 4x5”, 8x10”, 11x14”

  • Archival, handprinted, one of a kind, silver-gelatine, darkroom prints on Ilford Multigrade RC paper at two dimensions either 4x5” or 8x10”

  • Print mounting with cream foam-core mat boards, sizes dependent on print dimensions

  • A deluxe photo-book / print folio, perfect as a gift or extraordinarily special package of all the photographs from our shoot (more information available on request)

Pricing:

Prices start at $260 for a one hour shoot, either medium format or large format. If you would like to shoot both medium format and large format, the starting price is $330. This fee includes the cost of film and colour developing. I am happy to travel anywhere in Australia at cost or, if you are in the south east (VIC, ACT, NSW) we can coordinate a time I will be in your state to save on travel expenses.
